Establishment
of
Shree Ramachandrapura
Math: During one of his piligrimages ,
AdiShankara reached the shores of Gokarna ,The holy town
on the west coast of India.After worshipping the presiding
deity Shree Mahabaleshwara,tradition records that Shankaracharya
along with his disciples reached the hills of
Sathashringa to offer his prayers to Shree Varadesha.The place was an
abode of peace and hormony,where wild animals like tiger
and snake lived in amity with gentle creatures like cows
and deer.Shankaracharya was wonderstruck by the seen of
a tigrees showering motherly love on an orphaned deer at
Ahoka,A grove where the great saint Varadamuni was performing
penance.Varada muni welcomed Shankaracharya and handed over
the sacred
idols of Rama,Lakshmana
,Sita and
Chanrdamouleshwara Lingas to Shankara so that they could be worshipped
permanently by mahathmas.Varadamuni had received these
Idols from his Guru Agasthyamuni.Shankaracharya established a
math in his holy place,name with Raghuothama math which
was to work for the spiritual wellbeing of the entire society
and to under take the worship of the
sacred
idols.The Shree Math has stunningly beautiful
ivory
throne which is feast to one's eyes which was carved
during the period of Shree Ramachandra Bharathi Swamiji.(the
34th pontiff)
